About

STET
A (young) magazine (now book) editor (and optimist) takes a break from editing

So this is it–from me to you, a little lopsided, unedited, inside out. I promise to stick to the name of this blog, STET, which is editor-speak for “let it stand.” Well, it was Latin first, and now we use the mark to overwrite edits from other overeager editors, noting that “the original is correct”. I’ll spend my days correcting content, but at the end of the day a little unedited STET therapy will be welcome. I’ll find that here.

I consider this a space for sharing news and thoughts about myself, the world, media, inspiring endeavors, and where they all meet. I believe we need to approach media, business, education, politics and life from the inside out–moving from the heart and a conscious desire to better our communities. I also believe that we live in a world of overwhelming information. It is crucial that we develop as consumers of media and modern-day mantras–turn things inside out, find out where they were made, what they were made of, and just what they were intended for. It is time to create and embrace the good endeavors and share the stories that move us to be better individuals, not depress our hopes.

ME

I am currently an editor for Arcadia Publishing–we do non-fiction community histories (and more)–out of the San Francisco office. Before that I headed up the editorial department for a national magazine and relevant media company for young adults. I am an optimist. A writer. A sailor. A loud laugher. A believer in paying it forward. An enthusiast of words and nonfiction artists.

I am interested in the flow of content through print and an increasing number of online vehicles that can enlighten, engage, and enable audiences in innovative ways. I believes media can build more involved, inspired, and informed communities.

I am passionate about editing, writing, magazines, social marketing, public relations, documentary film, literary nonfiction, new media, community building, social media, sailing, African development, gender issues, art, refugee rights, young adults, nonprofit ventures, and unique challenges.

  1. Sarah,

I’ve been enjoying your blog! We have a lot in common … a work history in magazine and book editing and production, a passion for Barack, and an interest in Africa. It’s always great to find another person out there with common interests. Keep up the great work … I love your posts!

    Best,

    Perrin Davis

P.S. There’s no better name for a blog than STET, in my opinion. :-)
